Back To Main Motive Reference Page The Edit Tools pane contains the functionality to modify 3D data. Four main functions exist: trimming trials, filling gaps, smoothing trajectories and swapping data points. Trimming trials refers to the clearing of data points before and after a gap. Filling gaps is the process of filling in a markers trajectory for each frame that has no data. Smoothing trajectories filters out unwanted noise in the signal. Swapping allows two markers to swap their trajectories.
As markers pass into and out of view of the cameras, sometimes those partial occlusions can introduce "tails" in a trajectory near data gaps. The Trim Tails tool will help identify and remove those tails. ↑

The number of frames to trim at the beginning of any gaps, or the maximum number of frames to trim at the beginning of any gaps when "Automatic" is on. ↑

When trimming tails, the tool will make sure that data segments (i.e. sections of data with no gaps) are not reduced below this number of frames. ↑
When trimming tails, a gap must be at least this large before any trimming will be done on its leading or trailing edge. ↑
Moves the scrubber position to the previous gap in marker data. ↑
Moves the scrubber position to the next gap in marker data. ↑
Fills the currently selected gap. ↑
Fills all gaps in the currently selected track. ↑
Fills all gaps in all tracks of the timeline. ↑
The maximum size, in frames, that a gap can be for Motive to fill. Raising this will allow larger gaps to be filled. However, larger gaps may be more prone to incorrect interpolation. ↑
Selects the interpolation algorithm for gap filling. Valid options are Constant, Linear, and Cubic. ↑
Applies smoothing to the selection portion of the track. ↑
Applies smoothing to all frames of the track. ↑
Applies smoothing to all frames of all tracks of the currently selected timeline. ↑
Determines how strongly your data will be smoothed. The lower the setting, the more smoothed the data will be. High frequencies are present during sharp transitions in the data, such as footplants, but can also be introduced by noise in the data. Commonly used ranges for Filter Cutoff Frequency are 7-12 Hz, but you may want to adjust that up for fast, sharp motions to avoid softening transitions in the motion that need to stay sharp. ↑
