Trim Tails

Editor Tools showing Trim Tails Tab

As markers pass into and out of view of the cameras, sometimes those partial occlusions can introduce "tails" in a trajectory near data gaps. The Trim Tails tool will help identify and remove those tails.

Trim on Selected: Trims tails on selected markers in selected frame ranges.

Trim on All: Trims tails on all markers in selected frame ranges.

Leading Trim Size: The number of frames to trim at the beginning of any gaps, or the maximum number of frames to trim at the beginning of any gaps when "Automatic" is on.

Trailing Trim Size: The number of frames to trim at the end of any gaps, or the maximum number of frames to trim at the end of any gaps when "Automatic" is on.

Minimum Segment Size: When trimming tails, the tool will make sure that data segments (i.e. sections of data with no gaps) are not reduced below this number of frames.

Gap Size Threshold: When trimming tails, a gap must be at least this large before any trimming will be done on its leading or trailing edge.

Gap Fill

Editor Tools showing Gap Fill Tab

Find Previous: Moves the scrubber position to the previous gap in marker data.

Find Next: Moves the scrubber position to the next gap in marker data.

Fill Selected: Fills the currently selected gap.

Fill All: Fills all gaps in the currently selected track.

Fill Everything: Fills all gaps in all tracks of the timeline.

Max Gap Size: The maximum size, in frames, that a gap can be for Motive to fill. Raising this will allow larger gaps to be filled. However, larger gaps may be more prone to incorrect interpolation.

Interpolation: Selects the interpolation algorithm for gap filling. Valid options are Constant, Linear, and Cubic.

Smooth

Editor Tools showing Smooth Tab

Smooth Selection: Applies smoothing to the selection portion of the track.

Smooth Track: Applies smoothing to all frames of the track.

Smooth All Tracks: Applies smoothing to all frames of all tracks of the currently selected timeline.

Filter Cutoff Frequency: Determines how strongly your data will be smoothed. The lower the setting, the more smoothed the data will be. High frequencies are present during sharp transitions in the data, such as footplants, but can also be introduced by noise in the data. Commonly used ranges for Filter Cutoff Frequency are 7-12 Hz, but you may want to adjust that up for fast, sharp motions to avoid softening transitions in the motion that need to stay sharp.

Swap Fix

Editor Tools showing Swap Fix Tab

Find Previous: Jumps to the most recent detected marker swap.

Find Next: Jumps to the next detected marker swap.

Markers to swap: Selects the markers to be swapped.
